The Speeches, Toast Master and Master of Ceremonies
The speeches are usually announced by a toast master or the Best Man and are generally in the following order:
The Bride's Father
The first speech is made by the bride's father, a close relative or friend. The main purpose is to propose a toast to the bride and groom. Generally this speech will say how happy the father is to see his daughter marrying the man of her choice and how he's sure that all the guests will want to join him in wishing the couple well for their future happiness. All the guests should stand and raise their glasses, repeat the toast and drink to the bride and groom.
The Groom
The groom is the next to speak and responds on behalf of himself and his bride. He will thank the bride's parents and his parents, also at this stage the groom will pass on any thanks to friends or family members who have helped prepare for the wedding day.
The groom should not forget to express how radiant the bride looks... otherwise it could reflect on him badly.
If the bride and groom wish to give gifts to the parents, bridesmaids and best man this is the appropriate time. Finally the groom will propose a toast to the bridesmaids, once again admiring their outstanding beauty.
The Best Man
The best man will respond on behalf of the bridesmaids. His speech should include the reading of any telegrams or important cards. It is traditional for the best man to recount amusing tales of particularly the groom during his bachelor years and then perhaps the couple's courting relationship. However. the best man should ensure that it is suitable entertainment for all the family.
Once again the best man will ask all the guests to be upstanding to toast the happy couple.
